This week has been all about peanut butter, so I couldn’t resist seeing how it would fare in a cake. It was actually my very first time baking with peanut butter, and after looking up some recipes online for proportions, I adapted what I found into my usual cake procedure. The result was pleasantly surprising! A cake that was rich and soft, with a nice density, but not overwhelmingly heavy like you might expect when peanut butter is involved.
To make it even more indulgent, I topped mine with a peanut butter chocolate fudge, which paired beautifully with the cake’s nutty depth. That said, it would also taste amazing with something lighter, like a glossy chocolate glaze or a simple peanut butter drizzle. Though this started as a one-off experiment, it turned out good enough that I’d definitely try it again, whether for a snack-time treat or even dressed up for a special occasion. And if you’re a fan of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, this cake will be right up your alley!

Directions
Baking this peanut butter cake is a fun mix of familiar steps with a few indulgent twists. You’ll begin with a soft, buttery batter infused with creamy peanut butter, then bake it into a rich, golden cake. Once cooled, the layers get soaked with a sweet milk sauce to keep them extra moist. Finally, the whole cake is cloaked in a glossy peanut butter fudge that sets into a decadent topping, the kind that makes you want to sneak a taste before it’s ready.
Beat the Eggs: In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs with the vanilla essence until light, fluffy, and slightly pale in color. This will form the airy base for the cake.
Cream the Peanut Butter Mixture: In a separate bowl, cream together the butter, peanut butter, and sifted sugar until smooth and creamy. Sifting the sugar first ensures there are no lumps and helps you get a silky batter.
Combine the Wet Ingredients: Add the creamy peanut butter mixture to the fluffy eggs and beat until well combined. Then pour in the milk and vegetable oil, beating again until everything is fully incorporated.
Add the Dry Ingredients: Sift the flour, baking soda, and salt together to aerate them. Gently fold this mixture into the egg-butter batter until just combined. Be careful not to over-mix, as that could make the cake dense.
Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into a pre-greased 10-inch baking pan and bake at 350°F (Gas Mark 4) for 35–45 minutes. The cake is ready when a wooden pick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool and Slice: Remove the pan from the oven and let the cake cool, ideally over a wire rack. Once completely cooled, slice the cake horizontally through the middle and place both halves on a tray with their cut sides facing up.
Prepare the Milk Sauce: Mix the condensed milk and regular milk together to make a sweet soaking sauce.
Soak the Cake: Using a fork, poke small holes all over both cake halves. Spoon the milk sauce evenly over each layer, making sure no spots are left dry. Place the top half back onto the bottom half, and brush some more sauce over the top to keep it moist.
Make the Peanut Butter Fudge: In a non-stick pan, combine the butter, peanut butter, condensed milk, cocoa powder, and milk. Cook over low heat, stirring continuously with a wooden ladle to prevent burning. The fudge is ready when it thickens and begins to bubble.
Glaze the Cake: Place the cake on a wire rack with a tray underneath. Quickly pour the hot fudge over the cake, covering it completely. Work fast, as the fudge sets quickly and you’ll want a smooth, even coating.
Set and Decorate: Allow the fudge to drip and set until it firms up nicely over the cake. Carefully transfer the cake to a serving tray and decorate as you like — sprinkles for a fun touch, or finely chopped roasted peanuts for a more classic finish.
Conclusion
Once the fudge sets and the cake is ready to serve, you’ll find that every slice is a perfect balance of nutty, chocolatey, and sweet flavors. It’s indulgent yet surprisingly soft, making it a wonderful treat for both peanut butter lovers and anyone who enjoys a rich, moist cake. Pair it with a glass of milk, coffee, or even a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an unforgettable dessert!
